History of Rail Corridor
The Rail Corridor follows the former Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) railway line that operated from 1903 to 2011, connecting Singapore to the Malay Peninsula. The Bukit Timah Railway Station, built in 1932, served as a key intermediate station for passenger and freight services. After the railway land was returned to Singapore in 2011, the corridor was conserved for its railway heritage and repurposed as a recreational and ecological corridor, with the station gazetted as a conserved building.
Culture & Context
The corridor is valued as a community green space and heritage landmark that preserves Singapore's railway history. The restored Bukit Timah Railway Station functions as a community node with exhibitions on railway heritage, serving as a gathering place for recreation, education and nature appreciation along the linear park.
