A Famosa (Porta de Santiago)
A Famosa, also known as Porta de Santiago, is the surviving gatehouse of a Portuguese fortress built in 1511 in Bandar Hilir, Melaka, Malaysia. Constructed by Alfonso de Albuquerque after the Portuguese conquest of Malacca, it is among the oldest European architectural remains in Southeast Asia. Located at the foot of St. Paul's Hill near the Melaka River, the small fortified gateway with its weathered laterite walls is a central landmark of Melaka's UNESCO World Heritage historic zone.
