About Whale Beach
Whale Beach is a small ocean beach at the northern end of Sydney's Northern Beaches in New South Wales, situated between Palm Beach and Avalon Beach. Backed by steep headlands and residential slopes, it features golden sand, clear water and a consistent surf break. Patrolled by the Whale Beach Surf Life Saving Club, it is known for its scenic, relatively quiet setting compared to larger Sydney beaches and for panoramic views from Careel Headland and nearby coastal tracks.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a curved stretch of golden sand bordered by rocky headlands at both ends and backed by vegetated slopes and houses. The beach has a patrolled swimming area in season, open surf, and clear water for swimming and surfing. Facilities are low-key with a surf club building, showers and picnic areas above the sand. Access is via stairs and steep paths from Whale Beach Road. The surroundings are residential and natural, with coastal walking tracks linking to Palm Beach and Avalon Beach and lookouts over the Tasman Sea.
