Palm Beach

Palm Beach is a coastal suburb and beach at the northernmost tip of Sydney's Northern Beaches in New South Wales, bounded by the Tasman Sea to the east and Pittwater to the west. Known for its curved golden sand, Barrenjoey Headland and heritage lighthouse, it offers ocean surf on one side and calm harbour waters on the other. It is notable for scenic walks, swimming, boating and as the filming location for the television series Home and Away.

Visitors can expect a narrow peninsula with two distinct waterfronts: a 2.3 km ocean beach with surf and sand on the eastern side and sheltered Pittwater with moorings, wharf and calm water on the western side. The northern end is dominated by Barrenjoey Headland with walking tracks leading to Barrenjoey Lighthouse offering panoramic views over Broken Bay, Pittwater and Ku-ring-gai Chase. The foreshore includes Governor Phillip Park, picnic areas, cafes and residential streets. The setting is open and coastal with opportunities for beach use, coastal walks and sightseeing.

Named Palm Beach by Governor Arthur Phillip in 1788 for the cabbage-tree palms in the area. Barrenjoey Headland has a customs house and lighthouse history, with a stone lighthouse built in 1881 replacing earlier structures from 1855, guiding vessels at the entrance to Broken Bay. The area developed as a fishing and holiday settlement in the early 20th century.

Located on Country traditionally cared for by the Garigal people of the Eora Nation. In contemporary culture, Palm Beach is widely recognised as the exterior filming location for Summer Bay in the long-running Australian television series Home and Away, which contributes to its visitor profile.
