History of Bilgola Beach
The name Bilgola is derived from an Aboriginal word often interpreted as swirling water. The area was subdivided for residential development in the early 20th century. Bilgola Surf Life Saving Club was formed in 1949 and has patrolled the beach since, reflecting the post-war growth of surf lifesaving culture on Sydney's northern coastline.
