About Vlamingh Head Lighthouse
Vlamingh Head Lighthouse is a historic 1912 lighthouse located at Vlamingh Head, about 17 kilometres north of Exmouth in Western Australia. Perched on a headland overlooking Ningaloo Reef, Exmouth Gulf and Lighthouse Bay, it is notable for its panoramic coastal views and maritime heritage. Decommissioned in 1969, the preserved tower and surrounds now form a popular viewpoint within the Ningaloo Coast World Heritage Area, especially for sunset and seasonal whale watching.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect an exposed coastal headland with the preserved white lighthouse tower, interpretive signs and open viewing areas. The site offers 360-degree views over Ningaloo Reef to the west and Exmouth Gulf to the east. There is no interior access to the lighthouse. Visitors can walk around the tower, photograph the coastline, watch for humpback whales in season, and view sunset. The area is arid, windy and without shade, with a sealed access road and parking adjacent to the lighthouse.
