History of Toli Masjid
Constructed in 1671 CE (1082 AH) by Mir Musa Khan Mahaldar, chamberlain to Abdullah Qutb Shah, using savings from the Mecca Masjid construction budget. The name 'Damri Masjid' derives from the damri coins saved during construction. It represents late Qutb Shahi architectural style and is listed as a state protected monument under the Telangana Heritage Act.
Culture & Context
The mosque displays significant Hindu architectural influences including elephant-tusk brackets, pot-shaped minaret bases, and temple-like niches, reflecting the syncretic cultural heritage of the Deccan region. It remains an active place of worship and is considered one of the most beautiful mosques in Telangana.
