History of Golconda Fort
Originally built as a mud fort called Mankal in 1143 by the Kakatiya dynasty, Golconda Fort was later fortified by the Bahmani Sultans and extensively developed by the Qutb Shahi dynasty between the 14th and 17th centuries. It served as the principal capital of the Qutb Shahi kingdom and was a major center for the diamond trade, with famous diamonds like the Koh-i-Noor originating from mines near Golconda. The fort fell to Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in 1687 after an eight-month siege, ending the Qutb Shahi rule.
