About Shyam Nagar Mud Volcanoes
Shyam Nagar Mud Volcanoes are a rare geological formation located near Shyam Nagar village in Diglipur, North Andaman Island. Part of the few active mud volcano sites in India, the site features small mud cones that intermittently spew natural gases and liquid mud. Surrounded by forest and barren mud flats, it is notable for its bubbling craters and is accessed by a short walk from the main road.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a small, barren clearing in a forested area with several low mud cones and craters bubbling with grey mud and natural gases. The landscape is stark with cracked mud surfaces and sparse vegetation. There are no large structures; the main interest is observing the active vents up close. A short walk from the roadside through forest and muddy track leads to the site. Photography and quiet observation are the main activities.
