History of Saranrom Park
Saranrom Park was created as the garden of Saranrom Palace, commissioned in 1866 by King Rama IV (King Mongkut) and completed in the early reign of King Rama V (King Chulalongkorn). Designed as a European-style royal garden adjacent to the Grand Palace, it served as part of the palace grounds for receiving royal guests. Later converted into a public park under the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, it remains one of Bangkok's oldest surviving royal gardens.
Culture & Context
The park represents 19th-century royal landscape architecture blending Thai and European garden traditions. It preserves historic pavilions and layout associated with the Chakri Dynasty and serves as a green cultural space within Bangkok's Rattanakosin historic island, used for public recreation and community leisure near major religious and royal landmarks.
