History of Harbourfront
Located on the historic Keppel Harbour, Singapore's former commercial port area. The World Trade Centre (now HarbourFront Centre) opened in 1977 as an exhibition and ferry terminal complex. The precinct was redeveloped from the early 2000s as HarbourFront, with VivoCity opening in 2006 as Singapore's largest retail mall at the time, transforming the harbourfront into a leisure and transport hub.
Culture & Context
Serves as the mainland gateway to Sentosa Island and a contemporary maritime leisure precinct reflecting Singapore's port heritage and waterfront revitalisation. It functions as a community and visitor hub for shopping, dining and harbour transport.
