History of Falaknuma Palace
Built between 1884 and 1893 by Sir Viqar-ul-Umra, Prime Minister of Hyderabad and member of the Paigah noble family. The foundation stone was laid on 3 March 1884, and construction took nine years. Due to financial constraints, Sir Viqar-ul-Umra presented the palace to the sixth Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Mahbub Ali Khan Asaf Jah VI, in 1897. The palace served as the Nizam's residence until 1911. It underwent extensive restoration before reopening as a luxury heritage hotel.
