History of Coal Loader
Constructed 1913-1917 by the Sydney Harbour Trust as a major coal transfer depot to service Sydney's steamships and harbour operations. It used an elevated platform, tunnels and chutes to transfer coal from large colliers to smaller coal bunkering vessels. Operated until the early 1990s and later decommissioned. Heritage-listed as a rare surviving example of early 20th-century harbour industrial infrastructure.

Represents Sydney Harbour's industrial heritage and adaptive reuse for sustainability education. Now operated by North Sydney Council as a centre for sustainability, community learning, urban food production and environmental programs, reflecting contemporary community values around heritage conservation and sustainable living.
