Big Red Sand Dune is a prominent 40-metre-high sand dune on the eastern edge of the Simpson Desert, about 35 kilometres west of Birdsville in the Shire of Diamantina, Queensland. It is the most famous and tallest dune in the Simpson Desert and marks the gateway to the desert for travellers. Known for its striking red colour, steep slopes and panoramic desert views, it is a popular stop for four-wheel driving, photography and sunset viewing.
The Newnes Industrial Ruins are the remains of a former shale oil works located in the Wolgan Valley within Wollemi National Park near Lithgow, New South Wales. Built from 1906 by the Commonwealth Oil Corporation, the site processed oil shale until closure in 1932. Notable for its beehive coke ovens, retorts and brick structures set against sandstone cliffs, it is a state heritage-listed example of Australia's early oil shale industry.
Umngot River at Dawki in West Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya, is renowned for its exceptionally clear, emerald-green water that allows boats to appear as if floating on air. Flowing near the India-Bangladesh border, the river is spanned by the historic 1932 Dawki suspension bridge. Surrounded by forested hills and boulders, it is a major natural attraction for boating, photography and sightseeing, especially during the dry winter months when visibility is highest.
