About Wat Senasanaram
Wat Senasanaram Ratchaworawihan is a second-class royal Buddhist temple of the Dhammayuttika Nikaya located on U Thong Road in Pratu Chai, within Ayutthaya Historical Park, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. Originally called Wat Suea, it was restored under King Rama I and extensively renovated by King Rama IV. Notable for its white ubosot with classic Ayutthaya-Rattanakosin architecture, interior murals, and serene compound, it remains an active monastery and cultural landmark near the former royal palace.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect an active royal monastery within the Ayutthaya Historical Park island area, centered on a white ubosot (ordination hall) with traditional Thai architecture, gabled roofs, and interior murals. The compound is quiet and well-maintained with courtyards, Buddha images, and monastic buildings. Visitors can walk around the ubosot and viharn, observe daily monastic activities, take photographs of the exterior and grounds, and experience a less crowded temple atmosphere compared to major ruins nearby.
