History of Vivekananda Kendra
Vivekananda Kendra was founded on 7 January 1972 by Eknath Ranade, who had led the construction of the Vivekananda Rock Memorial (inaugurated in 1970) on the rock where Swami Vivekananda meditated in December 1892. Conceived as a living memorial, the Kendra was established as a spiritually oriented service mission to propagate Vivekananda's message of man-making and nation-building through yoga, education and social service.
Culture & Context
The Kendra functions as a centre for the study and practice of Indian culture, yoga, meditation and service. It promotes Swami Vivekananda's teachings, national integration and cultural awareness through camps, workshops, publications and exhibitions, and serves as a gathering place for spiritual seekers and students from across India.
