Victoria Street

Victoria Street in Richmond, City of Yarra, is a major east-west thoroughfare in inner Melbourne known as Little Saigon. Located about 3 km east of the Melbourne CBD, it is renowned as Melbourne's Vietnamese cultural and culinary precinct, lined with Vietnamese restaurants, bakeries, grocery stores and Asian supermarkets, alongside diverse shops and cafes reflecting its multicultural community.

Visitors can expect a busy, linear shopping and dining strip with low-rise shopfronts, Vietnamese restaurants, pho and banh mi eateries, Asian grocery stores, bakeries and specialty shops. The street is flat and walkable, served by trams, with footpaths, street parking and side streets to explore. The atmosphere is that of an active inner-city retail precinct with cultural signage, produce displays and casual dining venues.

Victoria Street was established as a major thoroughfare in the 19th century during the development of Richmond and Abbotsford. From the mid-1970s, following migration after the Vietnam War, the Richmond section became a focal point for the Vietnamese-Australian community, developing into a commercial and community hub often referred to as Little Saigon.
