History of Victoria Park / Barrambin
The site was established as Victoria Park in the late 19th century and operated as Victoria Park Golf Course from 1931 until 2021, one of Brisbane's oldest public golf courses. The parkland has served as public recreation reserve since the 1800s and is undergoing transformation under the Victoria Park / Barrambin Master Plan by Brisbane City Council to restore natural landscape and public access.
Culture & Context
Barrambin is the Turrbal name for the area, meaning 'windy place', reflecting its significance to the Traditional Owners, the Turrbal and Jagera peoples. The dual naming recognises Aboriginal cultural heritage and connection to Country. The park is valued as a major community gathering and recreation space for Brisbane residents.
