History of Vattakottai Beach
The beach is directly associated with Vattakottai Fort, an 18th-century coastal fort built by the Travancore Kingdom during the reign of Marthanda Varma and supervised by Dutch Captain Eustachius De Lannoy. The fort served as a coastal defence and lookout over the Bay of Bengal and remains an Archaeological Survey of India protected site overlooking the beach.
