Originally known as Lolark Ghat, it was renamed Tulsi Ghat after Goswami Tulsidas (1532-1623), the saint-poet who lived here and composed the Ramcharitmanas, the Hindi retelling of the Ramayana. The ghat has been renovated over centuries and retains association with Tulsidas's residence and temple. It also houses a historic akhara established during his time.
