About The Rock Nature Reserve
The Rock Nature Reserve is a protected bushland reserve centred on a large granite inselberg near the town of The Rock, about 32 kilometres southwest of Wagga Wagga in the Lockhart Shire, New South Wales. Rising 364 metres above the surrounding plain, the reserve is known for its dramatic summit views, diverse native flora and fauna, Wiradjuri cultural heritage as Kengal, and well-maintained walking tracks leading to the summit lookout.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a prominent granite hill rising abruptly from flat farmland, surrounded by open woodland and native bush. A marked walking track leads from a car park and picnic area through eucalypt woodland and rocky slopes to a fenced summit lookout with panoramic views over the Riverina plain. The reserve offers interpretive signage about Wiradjuri heritage, flora and fauna, birdwatching opportunities, and seasonal wildflowers. There are no shops or drinking water on site.
