About Tanjung Harapan Feeding Station
Tanjung Harapan Feeding Station is an orangutan supplementary feeding site inside Tanjung Puting National Park in Kotawaringin Barat, Central Kalimantan. Located along the Sekonyer River and accessible only by boat, it is the first of three main feeding stations in the park. It is notable for offering visitors a chance to observe semi-wild and rehabilitated Bornean orangutans during scheduled feeding times in a protected peat swamp forest.
Visitors guide
Visitors arrive by klotok (traditional wooden river boat) via the Sekonyer River and walk a short forest trail to a cleared feeding platform. At scheduled times, park rangers provide fruit and visitors can observe Bornean orangutans, often with mothers and infants, coming from the surrounding peat swamp forest. The setting is dense lowland tropical forest with boardwalks, a simple ranger station and viewing area. Sightings of long-tailed macaques, proboscis monkeys and birds are common while waiting.
