History of Surin National Museum
Established by the Fine Arts Department and opened in 2014 to serve as the principal museum for Surin and lower northeastern Thailand. It preserves evidence of human settlement from prehistoric times through Dvaravati and Angkorian Khmer periods, reflecting Surin's role as part of the Khmer cultural sphere before the Ayutthaya period.
Culture & Context
Showcases the living heritage of Surin's three main ethnic groups - Khmer, Lao and Kui (Suay) - including language, rituals, textiles, and the Kui tradition of elephant keeping that underpins the annual Surin Elephant Round-up. Exhibits also highlight local silk weaving, folk traditions and religious practices.
