History of Shah Najaf Imambara
Built in 1816-1817 by Nawab Ghazi-ud-Din Haider, the first King of Awadh (reigned 1814-1827), as his own mausoleum. It was designed as a replica of the shrine of Imam Ali in Najaf, Iraq, reflecting the Nawab's Shia faith. The Nawab, his wives Sarfaraz Mahal and Mubarak Mahal, and other family members are interred here. It represents the late Awadhi architectural phase in Lucknow.

An important Shia religious site in Lucknow, used as an Imambara for congregation and commemoration, especially during Muharram. It reflects the cultural and architectural patronage of the Awadh Nawabs and remains a notable example of Lucknow's Imambara tradition and funerary architecture.
