About Rewa Ghat
Rewa Ghat is a historic riverfront ghat on the western bank of the River Ganges in southern Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, located between Tulsi Ghat and Bhadaini Ghat near Assi Ghat. Built by the ruler of the former princely state of Rewa, it features stone steps leading to the river and small shrines. It is part of Varanasi's continuous stretch of 84 ghats and is visited for bathing, boating, photography and quiet riverside walks away from the main crowded ghats.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a relatively quiet stone-stepped ghat on the Ganges with open river views, small temples and shrines at the top of the steps, and direct access to the water for bathing and boating. The ghat is connected to neighboring ghats by a continuous walkway along the riverfront, offering views of sunrise and sunset, daily ritual bathing, and boat activity. The surroundings are residential and less commercial than the central ghats, with narrow lanes leading to the river.

History of Rewa Ghat
Rewa Ghat was constructed by the ruler of the former princely state of Rewa (in present-day Madhya Pradesh), who, like many princely states, built and maintained a ghat at Varanasi for pilgrims from his region. It forms part of the historic southern stretch of Varanasi's 84 ghats along the Ganges, traditionally developed and renovated between the 18th and early 20th centuries.
Culture & Context
As one of the 84 sacred ghats of Varanasi, Rewa Ghat is part of the living cultural and religious landscape of the Ganges riverfront. It is used for ritual bathing, daily worship, and as a quieter space for meditation and viewing river rituals. It contributes to the continuous pilgrimage and cultural circuit along the Varanasi ghats.
