History of Pildappa Rock
Pildappa Rock is a granite inselberg formed approximately 1500 million years ago as part of the Gawler Craton. The granite was exposed through long-term erosion and weathering. The rock and surrounding area have long been used by Aboriginal people and later became part of pastoral land on Eyre Peninsula. It is now conserved as a recreation reserve managed by the District Council of Wudinna.
Culture & Context
The rock is located on the traditional lands of the Barngarla people and holds cultural significance as part of the broader granite outcrops of the Eyre Peninsula that feature in Aboriginal heritage. Today it is valued as a community recreation and tourism site representing the natural heritage of the Wudinna district.
