About Norseman Tin Camels
The Norseman Tin Camels are a roadside sculpture installation in Norseman, gateway town to the Nullarbor Plain in the Shire of Dundas, Western Australia. The life-size camels made from tin and scrap metal commemorate the Afghan and Indian cameleers and their camels that were vital for transport, exploration and gold mining in the Goldfields region in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Located on the main highway, they serve as a popular photo stop and town landmark.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect an outdoor, roadside display of life-size camel sculptures constructed from tin and recycled metal, located on the main street/highway through Norseman. The installation is set in an open, flat area near the town centre and visitor centre, with clear views and space for photography. There are no buildings to enter; the experience is a short stop to view, photograph and read any interpretive signage about the cameleer history.
