History of New Farm Park
Developed from a former racecourse site acquired by Brisbane City Council in 1914 and officially opened in 1915. Designed as a formal municipal park with river frontage, avenues, and gardens, it is listed on the Queensland Heritage Register and Brisbane Heritage Register as an important example of early 20th-century public park design in Brisbane.
Culture & Context
A major community, recreational and cultural hub for Brisbane, hosting farmers markets, festivals, outdoor cinema and community events. The adjoining Brisbane Powerhouse, converted from the 1920s New Farm Powerhouse, is a leading contemporary arts centre, reinforcing the park's role as a cultural landmark for New Farm and the city.
