History of National Design Centre
The building was originally part of St Anthony's Convent, a Catholic girls' school founded in 1879. The current blocks were built in the 1920s to 1930s and later conserved as part of Singapore's heritage conservation efforts. After the convent relocated, the site was refurbished and reopened in 2014 as the National Design Centre to support Singapore's design sector.
Culture & Context
The centre serves as Singapore's national hub for design, promoting design innovation, collaboration and public appreciation of design. It supports designers and businesses, showcases Singapore design identity, and hosts programmes that connect the design community with the public.
