History of Na Hang Lake
The lake was created by the construction of the Na Hang Hydropower Plant, also called Tuyen Quang Hydropower Plant, on the Gam River, completed in 2008. The dam impounded the river valley to form a reservoir of about 8,000 hectares, flooding former valley land and creating the present lake landscape within the Na Hang Nature Reserve area.
Culture & Context
The lake and surrounding area is home to Tay, Dao and other ethnic groups. Traditional stilt houses, fishing practices, festivals and folklore, including legends associated with Pac Ta Mountain, form part of the cultural landscape experienced during boat tours and village visits.
