About Manton Dam Recreation Area
Manton Dam Recreation Area is a reservoir and outdoor recreation site on Manton Dam Road in Manton, within the Coomalie Shire, Northern Territory, about 70 kilometres south of Darwin. Built in 1942 to supply water to Darwin, the dam now forms a large freshwater reservoir surrounded by savanna woodland. It is notable for its designated swimming area, fishing and paddling opportunities, picnic facilities and birdwatching, serving as a popular day-use destination for Darwin residents and visitors.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a large freshwater reservoir set in open savanna woodland with a designated swimming area enclosed for safety, grassed picnic areas, and a boat ramp for non-motorised craft. The site offers views over the water, birdlife, and bush surroundings. Facilities are day-use only with picnic tables, barbecues and toilets. Activities centre on swimming, fishing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, picnicking and nature observation.
