History of Lennox Head
Lennox Head lies on Bundjalung Country. The headland was used as a lookout and resource area by Bundjalung people. European settlement developed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a coastal village. Lennox Point was later recognised for its surfing heritage and declared a National Surfing Reserve in February 2007, one of the first in Australia.
Culture & Context
The area holds cultural significance for the Bundjalung people as part of their traditional coastal Country. In contemporary culture it is significant as a surfing community and National Surfing Reserve, and as a hang-gliding centre, with Lake Ainsworth and the headland forming central community recreation spaces.
