History of Lee Point
Lee Point is on Larrakia Country. During World War II it was developed as a coastal defence position to protect Darwin Harbour, with 9.2-inch naval guns installed in 1941. The gun emplacements and associated structures remain as heritage remnants within Casuarina Coastal Reserve, reflecting Darwin's wartime role.
Culture & Context
The area is part of the traditional coastal country of the Larrakia people, the Traditional Owners of the Darwin region. Today it holds recreational and community significance as a natural coastal reserve used by Darwin residents for fishing, walking and family gatherings.
