About Lancelin Sand Dunes
Lancelin Sand Dunes are expansive coastal white sand dunes located on the edge of the town of Lancelin in the Shire of Gingin, about 127 km north of Perth, Western Australia. Covering around 2 km of dunes up to 30 metres high, they are the largest dunes of their kind in Western Australia. Notable for bright white sand, open desert-like landscape and proximity to the Indian Ocean, they are a major recreation area for sandboarding and off-road driving.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a vast open landscape of bright white, wind-formed sand dunes rising behind Lancelin town and close to the coastline. The area is largely natural with no built structures on the dunes themselves. Visitors can walk on the dunes, climb to high points for panoramic views over the town and Indian Ocean, take photographs, sandboard down slopes, and watch four-wheel drives, quad bikes and dune buggies operating in designated areas. Access is via sandy tracks from Beacon Road.
