About Lake Cave
Lake Cave is a highly decorated show cave located in the Boranup Karri Forest within Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park near Margaret River in Western Australia. Known for its permanent lake that reflects delicate crystal formations, the cave features the rare suspended table formation hanging above the water. Accessed by a descent through karri forest and doline, it is one of four guided show caves in the region and is noted for its active stalactites, stalagmites and shawl formations.
Visitors guide
Visitors access Lake Cave via a steep descent of approximately 350 steps through a collapsed doline and karri forest into a single large chamber. Inside, a guided tour leads along boardwalks around a permanent lake that mirrors straw stalactites, shawls and columns. The highlight is the suspended table, a massive calcite formation hanging from the ceiling. Lighting highlights reflections on the lake surface. The cave maintains a cool, humid environment year-round and the tour is fully guided with interpretation of geology and formation processes.
