History of Kwar Village
Legend states the valley was once part of the Kingdom of Tehri and was presented as dowry to the King of Rampur Bushahr. Before road connectivity in 2009, residents required three days of hiking to reach the nearest roadhead at Tikri. The region has been proposed for tribal status due to distinct cultural characteristics, though the central government declined the proposal in 2022.
Culture & Context
Kwar maintains a distinct mechanical society with strong social solidarity, collective consciousness, and adherence to local deities (Kwar and Jakh). Temples serve as hubs for socio-religious life, dispute resolution, and community gatherings. Women hold relatively progressive social positions with rights to divorce and remarriage. The community practices endogamy and preserves unique folkways, dialects, and architectural traditions.
