History of Koder House
The building was originally constructed as a Portuguese mansion in the 1800s. In 1905, Samuel S. Koder, belonging to Cochin's illustrious Jewish family, purchased and significantly remodeled the structure into its present Indo-European form. Samuel Koder ran the Cochin Electric Company and served as Honorary Consul to the Netherlands. The house hosted numerous prominent dignitaries including prime ministers, presidents, ambassadors, viceroys, and Nobel laureates. The Koder family maintained ownership until the third generation sold the property. The building has been recognized on INTACH's list of heritage sites.
