About Josephine's Gallery and Kangaroo Orphanage
Josephine's Gallery and Kangaroo Orphanage is a combined Aboriginal art gallery and wildlife rescue facility on the outskirts of Coober Pedy, South Australia. Established by Aboriginal artist Josephine Lennon, it showcases contemporary Aboriginal dot paintings and artefacts from local artists while operating as a volunteer-run orphanage for injured and orphaned kangaroos, offering visitors a cultural and wildlife experience unique to the opal mining town.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a small, informal gallery set in a desert landscape displaying colourful Aboriginal paintings, artefacts and crafts available for viewing and purchase. Adjacent enclosures and shaded areas house rescued kangaroos and joeys, often bottle-fed by volunteers.
