Itanagar Biological Park

Itanagar Biological Park, commonly known as Itanagar Zoo, is a zoological park located at Chimpu on the outskirts of Itanagar in Papum Pare district, Arunachal Pradesh. Spread over a forested hillside, it houses mammals, birds and primates native to Northeast India, including hoolock gibbons and Himalayan black bears. Established for conservation, education and recreation, it offers visitors a chance to observe regional wildlife in semi-natural enclosures amid dense vegetation.

Visitors can expect a forested hillside zoo with enclosures for mammals, primates, birds and reptiles native to Arunachal Pradesh and Northeast India. Paved and unpaved pathways wind through dense vegetation connecting animal enclosures, aviaries and viewpoints. The setting is natural and hilly, with shaded walkways, small streams and forested surroundings. Visitors can observe animals such as hoolock gibbons, Himalayan black bears, leopards, barking deer and various birds, and explore at a leisurely pace with opportunities for photography and nature observation.

Developed as Itanagar Zoo and later designated as Itanagar Biological Park under the Arunachal Pradesh Forest Department for ex-situ conservation, rescue and rehabilitation of regional wildlife, and for environmental education and recreation for residents and visitors of the capital region.
