History of Gurdwara Garhi Sahib
Gurdwara Garhi Sahib marks the site of the mud-walled fort (garhi) of Chaudhary Jagat Singh where Guru Gobind Singh Ji took shelter with 40 Sikhs and his two elder sons, Sahibzada Ajit Singh and Sahibzada Jujhar Singh, in December 1704. Here the Battle of Chamkaur was fought against the Mughal forces. Both Sahibzadas and three of the Panj Pyare attained martyrdom in this battle. The gurdwara was later established to commemorate the event.
