History of Dev Devashram
Naimisharanya is described in the Puranas and Mahabharata as the forest where 88,000 sages assembled to hear the Puranas recited by Sage Suta. The town has been a continuous centre of Vedic learning and pilgrimage for centuries. Ashrams such as Dev Devashram continue this tradition by hosting pilgrims, scholars and devotees who visit to perform rituals and study scriptures at this sacred tirtha.
Culture & Context
Naimisharanya is considered one of the principal Hindu pilgrimage centres and is associated with the legend of the Chakra (divine disc) marking the sacred centre. Dev Devashram contributes to the living religious culture by providing a space for bhajans, kirtans, satsang and observance of festivals, serving devotees who come to bathe in Chakratirtha and worship at Lalita Devi Shakti Peetha and other shrines.
