History of Carita Beach
Carita Beach is located on the coast of the Sunda Strait opposite the Krakatau volcanic complex. The area was significantly impacted by the December 2018 Sunda Strait tsunami triggered by the flank collapse and eruption of Anak Krakatau, which affected coastal settlements and tourism infrastructure along the Carita and Tanjung Lesung coastline. The beach has since been restored as a tourism area.
Culture & Context
The beach is part of the coastal community of Pandeglang with Sundanese and Bantenese fishing traditions. It functions as a local recreation area and supports tourism-related livelihoods including fishing, boat services, hospitality and seafood culinary culture.
