History of Bukit Batok Town Park
The park occupies the site of a former granite quarry, historically known as Gammon Quarry. After quarrying ceased, the disused quarry was developed into Bukit Batok Town Park in 1988 by the Housing and Development Board to serve the surrounding new town, and is now managed by the National Parks Board. The exposed granite cliffs are remnants of Singapore's granite quarrying industry.
Culture & Context
The park is popularly known as Little Guilin or Xiao Guilin because its granite cliffs and lake are said to resemble the limestone karst scenery of Guilin in China, making it a well-known scenic and photography landmark for local residents.
