About Boggy Hole
Boggy Hole is a permanent waterhole on the Finke River within Finke Gorge National Park in the MacDonnell Region of the Northern Territory, about 86 kilometres south-west of Hermannsburg. Fed by the ancient Finke River, one of the world's oldest river systems, it forms a deep, scenic pool flanked by red cliffs and river red gums. It is a popular 4WD camping and swimming destination and holds cultural significance for the Western Arrernte people.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a remote desert waterhole set in a gorge with steep red rock walls, sandy riverbed and shady river red gums. The site is accessed via a rough 4WD track along the Finke River. There is a basic bush campground on the riverbank with views over the waterhole. Visitors can swim in the waterhole when water levels permit, walk along the river, birdwatch, photograph the gorge landscape and camp overnight under dark skies. Facilities are minimal and the setting is isolated and natural.
