About Palm Valley
Palm Valley is a remote desert valley within Finke Gorge National Park, about 138 kilometres west of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. It is renowned for its grove of Red Cabbage Palms (Livistona mariae), found only in this central Australian location. Set among rugged sandstone gorges and the Finke River, the valley preserves an ancient relict plant community and offers walking tracks, camping and four-wheel-drive access in an arid landscape.
Visitors guide
Visitors can expect a rugged desert gorge landscape with towering red sandstone walls, sandy river beds and a lush grove of Red Cabbage Palms along the valley floor. Access is via a challenging 4WD track. Within the valley there are marked walking tracks through palm groves and to lookouts over the gorge, a campground and picnic area, and interpretive signage about the natural environment. The setting is remote, arid and quiet with limited facilities.
