History of Binnayaga Buddhist Caves
The Binnayaga Buddhist Caves date back to approximately 700-900 CE, constructed as part of a large Buddhist monastic network that included nearby Kolvi and Hathiagor caves. The site was notified as a Monument of National Importance under Act No. LXXI of 1951 dated 28.11.1951. These rock-cut structures provide archaeological evidence of Buddhist activity and ascetic settlement in Rajasthan during the medieval period.
Culture & Context
The caves represent one of the few surviving Buddhist rock-cut sites in Rajasthan, highlighting the state's lesser-known Buddhist heritage. The complex demonstrates medieval Indian Buddhist architectural styles and served as an important monastic center for Buddhist monks practicing Hinayana Buddhism.
