Fort Aguada
Fort Aguada is a well-preserved seventeenth-century Portuguese fortification located on Sinquerim Beach in North Goa, overlooking the Arabian Sea and Mandovi River mouth. Built in 1612 to defend against Dutch and Maratha invasions, it served as a crucial watering station for European ships due to its freshwater spring. The site includes massive laterite bastions, a historic lighthouse built in 1864, and the renovated Aguada Central Jail which now houses a Freedom Struggle Museum dedicated to Goa's liberation movement.
