Lake Argyle
Lake Argyle is Australia's second-largest artificial freshwater reservoir by volume, located in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia near the Northern Territory border. Created by the Ord River Dam completed in 1971, it covers up to about 1,000 square kilometres when full and stores over 10,000 gigalitres. It is notable for its vast inland sea landscape, more than 70 islands, freshwater crocodiles, diverse birdlife and central role in the Ord River Irrigation Scheme.
