Queenstown
Queenstown is a historic mining town on Tasmania's West Coast, within the West Coast Council area, about 260 km northwest of Hobart. Established in the 1890s for copper and gold mining centred on the Mount Lyell mine, it is notable for its stark, denuded hills, well-preserved heritage buildings such as the Empire Hotel, and as the terminus of the West Coast Wilderness Railway. It serves as a gateway to western Tasmanian wilderness.
