Cataract Gorge
Cataract Gorge is a natural river gorge reserve on the South Esk River at the edge of central Launceston in northern Tasmania. Formed over millennia, it features steep cliffs, the First and Second Basins, landscaped Victorian gardens, and historic bridges. Notable for its proximity to the city centre, it combines natural scenery with developed visitor facilities including a chairlift, walking tracks, swimming basin and peacocks, making it Launceston's most visited natural attraction.
